Fabio Capello began his first day as England manager on Saturday as he accompanied the FA’s Brian Barwick to the third round tie between Villa and Manchester United at Villa Park.
The game it self was a dull and scrappy affair as Villa tried to stifle United. The only saving grace of the game was Wayne Rooney’s introduction in the 70th minute which brought united to life and lend to the two goals. Capello as suitbaly impressed by Waynes contribution.
It was good to be at a game where a lot of the players were English players. And, of course, to see a player like Wayne Rooney come on as a substitute in such good form and have a major impact on the game was good for me on my first day.
Fabio was also happy with the support the fans showed him,
It was very good to start work today. I am delighted with the reception I got from everyone I met at the stadium. The fans were fantastic to me and Aston Villa Football Club could not have been more helpful. I am now looking forward to seeing a lot of games very quickly over the next few weeks.

I know that Fabio Capello has done a lot 4 England’s national team and i really respect him for, but i totally disagree with his decison of sacking Michael Owen for the upcoming WC matches knowing that after a really long time that he is at the epitome of his career .He’s fit and is showing real positive signs of getting better even at this stage of his career. i seriously plead Mr. Capello to reconsider his Team for the WC finals.
